Historic Pioneer with Noble Connections
Bordering the Peak District, pioneering Derby was the site of the first factory during the Industrial Revolution. The city was a silk producer and a former mill forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Derwent Valley Mills, lining the Derwent River between Derby and Matlock.
Also by the river is Darley Park which hosts an annual chamber orchestra concert. The city centre arboretum was England’s first public park, and Markeaton Park in the north-west has a light railway. Nearby is the university campus and 18th-century Kedleston Hall, a Palladian-style mansion involved in filming of ‘The Duchess’.
Another royal connection is Bonnie Prince Charlie who stayed at Exeter House. A replica of his room is in Derby Museum and Art Gallery, and there is a statue of him in Cathedral Square. Opposite is the oldest pub, the Dolphin Inn, but the best nightlife is around Friar Gate.
The nearby Cathedral Quarter is full of eateries and shops, and the Westfield Centre houses big name brands. The Grade II-listed Market Hall offers a range of stalls above underground tunnels which are supposedly haunted by one of Derby’s many ghosts.
Derby County FC play at Pride Park, near the train station and several hotels with parking. Booking.com also offers cheap apartments and guest houses near East Midlands Airport.

No Comment on Derby, as We Were Visiting Family, and then Went to a Weekend Festival. However, on Passing through the City, to get to Our Family, it Looked Good from a First Impression. We are Visiting Derby again in Early October, So We Shall try and See the City Property then.

At the conference centre, All Staff were caring and considerate of all clients, regardless of needs. The hotel bedroom was deep cleaned between each client. Were willing to go that extra mile. Will come back soon. Derby parking restrictions in town centre made it difficult for disabled persons to drive themselves, park safely, and retain independence in areas around combined Court and water areas, etc. Taxis had to be used from conference centre return, but drivers were a credit to Derby, kind, courteous and helpful. The suggested car parking not easy to access and nearest was closed. Signage was confusing to someone not familiar with Derby. We chose to eat in the conference centre due to road congestion we noticed on way in and after going in and out by taxi. We also utilised shops for snacks while in town.AAnonymous - 4.0Scored 4.0

Countryside is nice, town is a bit of a dive you would only really go to Derby if your planning on going to Alton Towers or maybe walking. Pub in the woods was my destination for a wedding and that was nice

We'd only planned on a visit for the night to get a live band gig in. Wish we'd been able to stay longer to look around a bit. Hotel was lovely, old building. Staff were friendly and very helpful.

The art gallery was interesting, especially the surrealist paintings. I highly recommend the Kedleston Hall! The staffs there were really helpful and informative, and the elegant interior design is especial. The Pickford’s House is interesting too, because there’re many grand upper-class mansions open to tourists but not homey middle-class houses like this. Derby is a fantastic city for an weekend stay. Plenty of bars and restaurants. Perfect for shopping too. Very lively on a Saturday night. Personally I would recommend more Christmas activities. What was there was nicely done though.

The breakfasts were hot and scrumptious, bed is extremely comfortable, and there are beautiful views right outside the window. Location is great - there are some wonderful pubs within walking distance, and Kedleston Hall is right down the road. Derby city center is just a short drive away. Couldn't have asked for a more perfect stay! Thank you so much Rachel and Mick!!!

It is also very convenient for Ashbourne and the Derbyshire Dales. Extremely comfortable room, good food, wonderful staff (friendly and efficient) and "dog friendly". A table was reserved for us in the bar so that we could eat with our dog. We felt that it was excellent value for money and when we need to stay in this area again we won't hesitate to return here - provided they have a room free!

They made vegetarian sausages for us . The spread was good and we had a good breakfast. Staff was friendly, rooms tidy. Dedicated car park with barrier. The location is just near the Derby train station and city centre. Good rates for value

Never had such a good night's sleep before in a hotel. Sharon made us feel so welcome. The whole place was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was just right. Beautiful garden out the back if you wanted a quiet space to sit. Would recommend to anyone visiting children at uni or if you are just looking for a quiet getaway in the Derbyshire Dales/Nottingham area.
